So its been quite a while since I have personally written a devotional. Today I want to touch on trusting in God when life frightens us.
Psalm 56: 1-4 (The Message) - Take my side, God—Im getting kicked around, stomped on every day. Not a day goes by but somebody beats me up; They make it their duty to beat me up. When I get really afraid I come to you in trust. Im proud to praise God; fearless now, I trust in God. What can mere mortals do?
When a child is afraid at night, he or she runs to the arms of their parent(s). Frightened by the settling of the house, a branch scratching the window, the darkness of the room, the thought of monsters under their bed or in the closet; all of these things and many others frighten children and even some adults.
…Not a day goes by but somebody beats me up; They make it their duty to beat me up.
Here we have the psalmist talking about his cuts and bruises. Now whether theses cuts and bruises are physical or spiritual they are still hurtful and can cut very deep. Everyday when the psalmist wakes up he knows that he is going to be beat up and this frightens him.
…When I get really afraid I come to you in trust. Im proud to praise God; fearless now, I trust in God. What can mere mortals do?
The psalmist is frightened everyday about being beat up but he realizes that he can go to God and praise Him in these tough times and God will give him the fearlessness that he needs! What can mere mortals do? I love this question, it pumps me up! To know that the mere mortals I see on a day to day basis cannot touch me because I have God on my side!
So today when you are frightened by something, when you start to become beaten up, just realize that they are mere mortals and they cannot touch you because God is right there by your side!
